The Director, Engineering – PMO has responsibility for strategic visioning, specification, implementation, support and continuous improvement of Chamberlain’s product development processes including the 6D new product development process, agile software and hybrid software/hardware development processes, and RMD lean startup process. They manage the product development program portfolio, support executive leadership prioritization decision-making, conduct program audits, establish and track portfolio metrics, maintain the dashboard, and report portfolio performance to executive leadership.
The Director, Engineering – PMO will recruit, develop and lead a team of program/project management professionals who are responsible for managing individual product development programs/projects, process or infrastructure improvement projects, engineering or business initiatives, and other special projects in support of business needs. They collaborate with line-of-business leaders and functional leaders to ensure program and project management support for the 3-5 year strategic plan and product/services roadmap to drive business results.
The Director, Engineering – PMO administers the annual budget for the PMO, oversees the resource planning and tracking process for the engineering department, and coordinates the engineering department expense allocation process with the line-of-business leaders and finance team. They are a key member of the engineering leadership team and have shared ownership of the annual engineering excellence initiatives and talent development process.
BS or BA degree in engineering, science, math, technology, business, economics or finance.
Minimum 15 years of experience in project/program management, including minimum of 5 years as leader of project/program management office (PMO).
Minimum 10 years of experience at large (>$500M sales) companies in consumer products, aerospace, automotive or similar industries with product development and manufacturing core competencies.
Minimum 5 years of people management experience leading technical or project/program management professionals in a product development organization.
PMP certification. Active in PMI or similar associations.
Expert-level understanding of stage-gate product development processes, agile software development processes, related best practices, and related tools such as Microsoft Project, Jira (Atlassian) or equivalents.
Strong knowledge of product lifecycle management and enterprise software platforms such as Windchill (PTC), SAP or equivalents.
Strong business acumen; demonstrated ability to develop business cases, oversee and manage budgets.
Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal; exceptional presentation skills; concise and direct; can communicate effectively to all levels of management; persuasive; can speak in business language, articulate a point of view and drive to a business decision.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, build teams, influence without authority, drive organizational change, and build strong stakeholder relationships.
Expertise in LEAN tools including problem analysis, Kaizen, and value stream mapping to drive continuous improvement.
Masters or PhD in engineering, science, math, technology, economics or finance; MBA or equivalent.
Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification.
Scrum master certification and demonstrated experience as scrum master.
Experience managing projects or programs to deliver products or solutions which include electronics, embedded software, mechanical systems and connectivity (radio, cellular, cloud, etc.).
Experience managing projects or programs in a matrix structured organization.
Experience managing projects or programs with globally distributed teams, including development teams in low cost countries.
